The 3 Game Losing Streak Of 2008

2008 was one of the most exciting years in the history of the Baltimore Ravens. John Harbaugh was a rookie head coach and Joe Flacco was his rookie quarterback. It was truly the start of an era. Baltimore won the first two games of the season against the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cleveland Browns. The game against the Browns was a 28-10 blowout. Going into the week three battle with the Steelers the Ravens were feeling pretty good about themselves.

The Steelers brought the Ravens back down to earth. In a game that went into overtime, this rivalry entered an intense chapter. The Steelers became the Ravens mental hurdle. For a while, the Steelers always escaped with a narrow victory. No matter what happened, a great game could only win with a demoralizing loss to the Steelers. The Steelers and Ravens rivalry was already intense. It was far from the Ravens first loss to the Steelers, but it was the first loss of this era and it was significant.

The Ravens then lost to the Titans. It felt like the Ravens couldn’t get over their first loss. That game against the Steelers hurt as much as any loss a Ravens fan can remember. The third act of the Ravens 2008 despair was a 31-3 beating from the Indianapolis Colts. Peyton Manning was a destroyer of the Ravens long before Harbaugh arrived on the scene.

The Ravens bounced back with a fury. Baltimore won nine of their last eleven regular season games. The Ravens destroyed the Miami Dolphins in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. Their next stop was against the Tennessee Titans, the very team that beat them in week four. The Ravens won the defensive slug-fest 13-10. In the first season of the Harbaugh era, the Ravens went to the AFC Championship Game. It didn’t go well. It was a loss against the Steelers, but that’s not the point. The point is that the Ravens were coming off a three game losing streak with a 2-3 record and still had a great season.
