4. Dennis Pitta

When Baltimore gave Dennis Pitta another shot to come back this year, several people, including myself, doubted if his roster spot deserved to go to another player. Pitta played only seven games since his breakout season in 2012. Injuries surely robbed him of his career.

Seven games into the season, Pitta leads the team in reception and moved back into his position as Flacco’s security blanket. Flacco targeted Pitta at least eight times in five of the the seven games. He ranks second in receptions by a tight end so far this year behind only Greg Olson.

His return to prominence continued several drives already this season with big catches on third down. The 31-year-old tight end lost the prime of his career, but someone forgot to tell him that. He came back from essentially three years of injuries to pick up right where he left off.

Pitta’s story is not only good for the Ravens but for everyone. This guy lost the best years of his career right after emerging as a star on a super bowl winning team. The fact he suited up for one more chance to keep playing is inspiring, and his play at such a high level is amazing.
