Baltimore Ravens running back Kenneth Dixon has been suspended 4 games.

In a day where free agency takes the front stage, a surprising story has come out. Baltimore Ravens running back Kenneth Dixon has been suspended for the first four games of the 2017 season for violating the NFL’s policy on PEDs. The news was broke by Ravens beat write Jeff Zrebiec on Twitter:

Dixon has sent out a statement saying that he “mistakenly took a substance without proper NFL medical examination.”

Dixon had a fantastic rookie season last year. He missed the first four games of the season with a knee injury, but came back and got better each week.  At the end of the season he totaled 382 rushing yards and 162 receiving yards.

This suspension not only hurts Dixon but the team as well. The Ravens were counting on Dixon to be their feature back for next season. If he were to test positive for PED’s again, he could face a 10 game suspension. I hope to believe that it was an accident and that this will not happen again.

Danny Woodhead signing makes sense

When the Ravens signed Danny Woodhead last night, it was really out of nowhere. There were no reports or rumors of him going to Baltimore and many people were surprised. Now that we know about the suspension, it makes a lot more sense.

Woodhead is not as powerful on the ground game, but he can provide a significant threat in the passing game. He will presumably take over the roll of Dixon for the start of the season. It is assumed that Terrence West will see most of the load in the first four weeks of the season. Joe Flacco now has another option coming out of the backfield. The duo of Woodhead and Dixon could prove to be very deadly, but we will have to wait until week 5 to see it.
