According to reports, the Ravens will not be bringing back Torrey Smith. He now plays for the Philadelphia Eagles:

Torrey Smith to Baltimore made sense. Here was a player that already has loyal fans in Baltimore. He won a Super Bowl ring in Baltimore, and he had a great chemistry with Joe Flacco.

The move never happened. The Ravens will have to go elsewhere at the wide receiver position. Here’s how Smith got on the train with the Eagles. This is from Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk:

"“The 49ers released Smith recently and the Eagles have landed their man five months later. According to multiple reports, Smith has agreed to a three-year deal worth $15 million with Philadelphia. PFT has confirmed the deal”"

This is probably good news for Mike Wallace. If the Ravens had signed Smith, the consensus thought was that he would be cut. Now Wallace’s chance of remaining employed with the Ravens are boosted. Smith and Wallace are essentially the same wide receiver, age being the only major difference. The Ravens didn’t need Smith and Wallace on the same team, especially considering Perriman is another burner.

The Ravens still need to figure out what they are doing at the wide receiver position. It’s doubtful that they will land Alshon Jefferey or Terrelle Pryor. Wallace is by far their best receiver and he isn’t a true number one.

Torrey Smith will always be a favorite in Baltimore. The Eagles needed Smith desperately. The Ravens need a receiver but Wallace fills the very role Smith would have played.
