The Baltimore Ravens have signed cornerback Brandon Carr

To help add much needed depth in the secondary, the Baltimore Ravens have signed free agent cornerback Brandon Carr. The news was reported by ESPN insider Adam Schefter:

According to Schefter, the deal is for four years, but it will likely end up being a two year deal. The Ravens were linked to another Cowboys cornerback, Morris Claiborne, but he is set to sign with the New York Jets.

I love the move of adding Carr. His veteran experience is much needed for a very thin secondary. I like the move much better than Caliborne because it is a safer pick. In Carr’s nine year career, he has not missed a single game. You heard that right. He has played in all 16 games every season he’s been in the league. Claiborne might have more talent, but Carr comes in for less money and does not have the injury history. The last thing the Ravens need is more injuries in the secondary. That is exactly what hurt them last season down the stretch

Does this affect Ravens draft?

Obviously adding Carr is major help to the Ravens secondary. He is a veteran that brings a lot of experience to the table. This move also could change how the Ravens view the draft. Ravens beat reporter Jeff Zrebiec tweeted that the move could make the Ravens look elsewhere in the first round of the draft.

Because the cornerback depth is very deep, the Ravens do not need to draft one right away. Recent mock drafts have linked the Ravens to taking a wide receiver with the #16 pick. It would make sense, considering the offense needs more weapons. Washington University speedster John Ross is a potential option at wide receiver that could help the Raven’s offense tremendously.
