John Ross, WR, Washington

This opinion may not be so popular and it pains me as I do love John Ross, I just think his match with the Ravens is overrated.

As we all know he is incredibly fast. He tested fast and his game tap shows he plays that fast. He runs good routes, he tracks the ball very well and he has very good hands. Once he has caught the ball he is a nightmare. He can outrun people or he can make them miss and easily weave through traffic. His speed and ball-carrier ability also make him a dangerous kick returner.

None of his skills or shortcomings are the issue I have with Ross and I think he is good enough to be picked at #16. I just don’t like the fit.

Not What The Ravens Need

The Ravens do not need another speed receiver. I understand Ross’s game is more refined than Perriman’s but that doesn’t mean he would fill the receiver role that the Ravens need; that is the possession receiver role.

The Ravens need a receiver but there is a fair chance that either Mike Williams and/or Corey Davis are available with the 16th overall pick, they would make a lot more sense if the Ravens were to address the wide receiver position.

Of these five players I would mind the least if Ross was the Ravens 1st round pick. I do like what he brings to the table and bringing him in could mean the Ravens use two tight ends with Pitta, Watson or Williams as the slot/possession receiver and Gilmore or Boyle as the in-line, more traditional tight end with Ross, Wallace and Perriman bringing the speed on the outside. But overall I just think the fit between Ross and the Ravens is overrated.
