Baltimore Ravens: What We Learned From League Meetings
By Joe Schiller
C.J. Mosley is here to stay
There is a major hole after the retirement of Zach Orr, but the Ravens are set with their other middle linebacker. Harbaugh told the media that the Ravens would be picking up C.J. Mosley’s 5th year option after next season. This was assumed, but it is nice to hear it out of the mouth of the head coach. Picking up his 5th year option hopefully means the front office will work to secure him on a long term contract.
The Ravens are picky when it comes to keeping and letting go key free agents, especially after letting go of Rick Wagner and Kyle Juszczyk this offseason. There is not doubt the front office made the right decision on Mosley. It is still too early to tell, but it looks like they have found the long term replacement to Ray Lewis. Either way, he is going to be the face of the defense for a very long time. He is only 24 years old and is a a two time Pro Bowler. His ability to play the run and the pass game makes him a very special player. He is a big reason why the Ravens ranked so well on the defensive side last season. Now the only thing is to find him a partner on the inside.
