Baltimore Ravens: The Perfect 7 Round Mock Draft

5th Round, 159th Overall Pick – Malachi Dupre, WR, LSU
Dupre was meant to be the next great receiver out of LSU after seeing the success that schoolmates Landry Jones and Odell Beckham Jr. have had. That never really happened as the Tigers’ quarterback play has been mediocre at best and has been very inconsistent. Dupre’s team leading 43 receptions and 41 receptions over the last two years says everything it needs to about the LSU offense. That helps push Dupre down this far in the draft but there are traits that make him a good late round developmental pick.

He checks the boxes in terms of his size and athleticism. His 4.52 40 yard dash is okay but his jumping ability is what stands out – 39.5” vertical jump and an 11’4” broad jump. Those tests results coupled with a 6’2” frame make him a good looking receiver.
His skills are also better than his production would suggest. He has played all three receiver roles and had production at all of them. His hands are good. In all three years of his career he had a good catch rate thanks to his ball tracking and how he can adjust.
Bottom Line: He Has Potential
Especially during his freshman year, he displayed good downfield potential. He is very good at tracking the ball and adjusting his body accordingly. Though his production wasn’t great you can see on film that LSU, when they threw it, used play action and often went deep and he did produce. He seems eager to create after the catch but admits that he can improve in that area (on the Move the Sticks Podcast, April 3rd 2017).
He needs to improve his route running and could get more physical as a run blocker but I love his potential as a bigger vertical threat and possession receiver. With Corey Davis and Dupre entering the fold I love the potential of the Ravens receiving corps.
