Tight End
Players Involved: Dennis Pitta, Benjamin Watson, Maxx Williams, Crockett Gillmore, Nick Boyle, Darren Waller
This is one of the most loaded positions for the Ravens right now. With six tight ends on the roster, something is going to have to give. It does not make sense to keep this many tight ends on the 53-man roster. The most obvious starter out of the bunch is Dennis Pitta. He is the seasoned veteran that has been on the team the longest. After suffering two major hip injuries, he was able to stay healthy last season. He finished the season as the second leading receiver on the team.
Behind Pitta, I look at Gillmore and Waller to be the second and third options. Boyle could potentially be making the transition to fullback so he would be out of the picture. When healthy, Gillmore is one of the most dangerous receiving targets on the roster. At 6’6″, he is a match-up nightmare for any linebacker or secondary player. Waller also fits into this category. Along with being a solid special teams player, he provides height and a large target in the redzone.
Benjamin Watson is 36 years old and spent the whole season on injured reserve with an Achilles injury. Maxx Williams also did not see playing time because of injury. It would not surprise me to see Watson get cut to free up cap space and to see Williams with a limited role. He was a second round pick but has not lived up to the expectations.
