The Baltimore Ravens aren’t just one piece of the puzzle away from being contenders. They have multiple needs going into the 2017 NFL Draft. Trading Back may not be the most exciting option, but it could be a reasonable one.

The Baltimore Ravens have to fill needs in the 2017 NFL Draft. They have to get help at the wide receiver position. The Ravens have two holes to fill on the offensive line. They have a need for pass rushers and cornerback is still to some degree a need. The Ravens needs are overwhelming. This is a deep class. Depending on the situation, trading back is not necessarily a bad idea.

The key is letting the draft play out. If Corey Davis or Mike Williams is there with the 16th pick, trading back makes about as much sense as shooting your foot with a shotgun. These two players are exactly what the Ravens need more than anything. If they’re off the board trading back and acquiring an extra pick or two could be beneficial.

The Ravens have four picks in the top 78. They don’t need to trade back to change their roster for the better. More ammunition wouldn’t hurt though. If trading back allows the Ravens to get help for the offensive line, a play-maker for the offense and a pass rusher, it would be hard to argue with it.

More than ever before, the Ravens are bound by their draft needs. This is not a draft where Ozzie Newsome can stubbornly stick to his board, as if it is set in stone. He has to get players at their proper value, but he cannot ignore team need. The Ravens have too many needs to put all their eggs into one basket. I doubt they will trade up, but they could trade back.

The Bottom Line:

As long as the Ravens don’t pass on one of the top two receivers, I’m okay with trading back. What they cannot do, is blindly commit to trading back. They have to see what happens and make an appropriate decision.
