Former Baltimore Raven Torrey Smith is still making his impact in Baltimore
In a day where negativity seems to rule the media, it’s important to focus on the positives. A former Baltimore Raven player is making news for his charity work. An article by Thomas Duffy of Bleacher Report highlighted the work that Torrey Smith is making for the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCs).
"Though Torrey Smith signed with the Philadelphia Eagles this past winter, the wide receiver is still taking care of Baltimore. On Saturday, the 28-year-old and his wife paid adoption fees for 46 animals at BARCS Animal Shelter’s “Pawject Runway.” They also made a donation on top of the fees.According to the organization’s Facebook page, Smith is a regular at the event."
After playing collegiality at the University of Maryland, Smith was drafted by the Ravens in the second round of the 2011 draft. He spent four season in Baltimore before signing with the San Fransisco 49ers. During his time with the Ravens Smith was very involved in the community. He still makes his mark on the Charm City. Every year he holds a charity basketball game for his organization “Torrey Smith Family Fund.”
Smith was a free agent this offseason and it was rumored he was going to make a return to Baltimore. Instead, he chose to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles on a three year contract. It is great to see him still making an impact in Baltimore. Even though he isn’t a Raven anymore, there is no doubt that he is still a hometown favorite. Ravens fans are rooting for him no matter where he goes.
This is not the first time we’ve seen a Ravens player involved with this shelter. Second year offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley adopted a dog from BARCs in June last year.
