Baltimore Ravens roster spotlight: A look at the running backs
By Joe Schiller
The Baltimore Ravens have a promising backfield and need to capitalize on that this season
The Baltimore Ravens had a lot of problems last year and running the ball was one of them. They team parted ways with veteran running back Justin Forsett to go with younger backs. Kenneth Dixon was drafted in the 4th round of the 2016 draft and Terrance West was brought in the year before. Those two became the feature backs for the rest of the season.
The duo came on at the end of last season and the two will look to continue that success in 2017. However, Dixon will have a delayed start. He is suspended for the first four games of the season from PED use. This is presumably why the Ravens then went and signed veteran back Danny Woodhead. He provides a lot of the same intangibles that Dixon has, especially in the passing game.
The Ravens really have not had a consistent threat in the backfield since Ray Rice. Kyle Juszczyk was the closest thing to this threat and he was a fullback. This season, the Ravens have a number of running backs on their roster. Right now there is Terrance West, Danny Woodhead, Lorenzo Taliaferro, and Buck Allen. It is a crowded backfield that has potential if utilized correctly.
