Pros/Cons

Pros

The Ravens need a back that can drive the ball into the end-zone and Blount can do this. Too many times last season the offense could not finish drives. They relied on the past in the end-zone rather than the run.  Justin Tucker kicked a lot of field goals and the offense became reliant on him. If they want to turn it around this season, this has to change. Blount can be the answer to this problem.

Even at the age of 30, Blount has shown that he can be a work horse. He came just one carry short of reaching 300 carries on the season. Dixon and West combined did not even reach that amount. For offensive consistency, it’s going to be important to have a back that can play the majority of the season. Even if he isn’t starting every single game, having him to bring in certain situations is important.

Cons

Adding a big back like Blount would be great, but the Ravens already have two backs who know how to break tackles. Terrance West and Kenneth Dixon ranked in the top 25 in yards after contact last season.

Signing Blount could be also be a risk for the Ravens. He is a hit or miss kind of player. Only twice in his career has he reached over 1,000 yards rushing. That came in his rookie season and last year. Not to mention he has had some off the field issues in his career.

Bringing in Blount would also make the Ravens backfield even more crowded. It could hinder the development of West and Dixon, who are still getting the feel for the Ravens offense. It is worth it to bring in a back for a year? A big philosophy of Ozzie Newsome and John Harbaugh is to let the players on the roster get a chance to play.  I’m not sure they want to get away from this philosophy.
