We take a look at the quarterback position for this roster spotlight

Say what you want but the quarterback is the most important player on a football team. For the Baltimore Ravens, that has been Joe Flacco. He’s been under center for the past ten seasons. Other than one knee injury, he has not missed a single NFL game. This is a kind of luxury that many teams are not able to have. Some are lucky to have the same quarterback for 3-4 years.

After not being able to find a consistent quarterback, the Ravens took Joe Flacco in 2008. The first round draft choice started his rookie season, leading the team to an AFC Championship berth. He followed that up by making the playoffs the next five years. In 2012 Flacco led the Ravens to a  Super Bowl, throwing for 11 touchdown and 0 interceptions. Because of the performance, the big debate came about him being an “elite” quarterback. Ever since, the debate has stuck with him. Most of the time you cannot say Joe Flacco without mentioning the word elite in the same sentence.

Aside from the joke, there is no doubt that Flacco is one of the leaders on this football team. At 32 years old he is entering the back end of his career, but the Ravens need him more than ever now. They have missed the playoffs three out of the last four seasons. This team has the potential to make the playoffs and possibly win and Super Bowl. If they want to do this, it starts with the play at quarterback.
