The latest contest in the Ravens Legends Bracket gives a tough one. It’s Lardarius Webb vs. Dennis Pitta:

The Baltimore Ravens Legends Bracket is well under way, but this may be the toughest match up. Dennis Pitta is a fan favorite. He was a key part of the Super Bowl XLVII team. He’s battled his way through back to back hip fractures and once again became Joe Flacco’s go to guy.

Webb was drafted in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He originally made his impact as a nickel corner and an explosive kick returner. Then the light came on, and he became a play-making cornerback for the Ravens. This is a fitting pairing. Both players are career Ravens who have had to battle their fair share of injuries. While both players are beloved fixtures in Baltimore, only one player can advance.

Why Lardarius Webb is a Ravens Legend:

Webb is a Ravens legend because he’s given everything to the team. Webb’s best season was 2011. He defended 20 passes, had five interceptions and scored a defensive touchdown. For a corner that was supposed to be undersized, Webb kicked a lot of butt in the NFL. Webb had 13 career interceptions. Webb was also an accomplished kick returner. When he was a rookie, he had almost 1,000 kickoff return yards and a touchdown.

While wearing a Ravens uniform, Webb has returned punts and kicks, been the nickel corner and a starting cornerback. This past season he added another role, free safety. Webb has earned his legend status by doing whatever the team asked.

Why Dennis Pitta is a Ravens legend:

Without the efforts of Dennis Pitta, the Ravens may have never even reached Super Bowl XLVII. The Ravens were facing 3rd & long deep in their own territory against the Denver Broncos. If the Ravens had to punt from there, the game could have ended a different way, very quickly. When Flacco launched a back shoulder pass to Pitta, he knew the reliable tight end would make the play. Pitta had 14 receptions for 163 yards and three touchdowns, in the 2012 playoffs.

Pitta has been a strong and reliable pass catcher at the tight end position for his entire career. He caught over 80 passes in the 2016 season. When the season started, nobody knew what to expect. When the season ended, nobody could believe that Pitta came back from his grueling recovery (twice) and had a phenomenal season.
