Breshad Perriman is getting a ton of hype and has a lot of expectations going into this season.

If you’ve been following the start of OTAs for the Baltimore Ravens, you have heard a lot of good things. Joe Flacco looks like he’s finally getting back to normal and the defense looks great. Most notably, we have heard a lot of positives about the wide receivers, particularly Breshad Perriman.

I do not mean like a couple sentences talking about his play, everyone has been praising him. Check it out for yourself:

A lot of good talk about the second year receiver. Obviously OTAs are just the start of team activities, but it’s good to see this kind of optimism. The Ravens raised some eyebrows when they didn’t address the receiver position in free agency or the draft, but they seem to have a reason behind it. They are sticking to their guns and showing they have trust in the current receiving core.

Big expectations for 2017

The expectations are at an all time high for Perriman this season. After struggling with injuries in 2015, he was able to come back last year for real rookie season. He had a decent year and finished with 499 yards and three touchdowns.

Perriman’s speed is one of the most intriguing factors. Once he gets the ball, he’s off to the races and it’s hard to catch him. With a big arm in Joe Flacco, hopefully this makes for a lot of deep balls. We really haven’t seen a consistent deep threat on the offense since Torrey Smith.

Next: Baltimore Ravens: 3 reasons they’re betting on potential

The big thing for Perriman going into this season is consistency. There would be times where he would make a spectacular catch or touchdown, but there were also times it seemed like he wasn’t even on the field. He has the talent, but it’s just about putting it all together. The Ravens need him to be their #1 receiver this year. Mike Wallace is a great talent, but at his age he’s not that kind of receiver anymore. It’s time for Perriman to step up and show that the Ravens made the right decision taking him in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft.
