The Baltimore Ravens drafted Maxx Williams in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Earning the starting job won’t be easy though:

The Baltimore Ravens drafted Maxx Williams to be the future of the tight end position. It’s not hard to see what Ozzie Newsome saw in Williams. He’s a 6’4″ player who is fast and can go up and get the football. Williams has a surplus of athletic ability. The Ravens just lost their top tight end to another hip injury, Williams is recovering from his injury. Garrett Downing of the Ravens official website reported on Williams pursuit back to the game:

"““Who wants to sit out a whole season? I’m ready to get back,” Williams said after a recent workout. “The positive is that I don’t have to worry about [the knee] anymore because we took care of it. But it sucks right now watching them practice and not being able to.” Williams isn’t practicing yet, but Head Coach John Harbaugh said the expectation is for him to return in training camp. He’s about eight months removed from a complicated knee surgery, which Harbaugh said had never before been performed on a football player.”"

This is obviously a big chance for Williams. He was a second round pick, the Ravens want him to be successful. The problem is that they have invested in many options at the tight end position. The Ravens were invested in Pitta before he got hurt on Friday. The Ravens signed Ben Watson before the 2016 season. Crockett Gillmore, Darren Waller and Nick Boyle also factor into the equation. It may be a big chance for Williams but he’s not the favorite to win the starting tight end job.
