Terrance West faces a make or break season with the Ravens

Terrance West is facing a make or break season:

Terrance West was drafted by the Browns in 2014. In just one season and 171 rushing attempts West was off to play for the Tennessee Titans. West would finish the 2015 season with the Baltimore Ravens. 

The 2016 season was a disappointing year for West. Here he was, right where he wanted to be. The former walk-on star at Towson wanted to be drafted by the Ravens. 2016 was his first real chance at making his dream career come true. West had 776 yards and five touchdowns on the ground for the 8-8 Ravens.

The Ravens finished 28th in rushing yards per game last season. It is hard to fault West for that. In a year where he got just 193 carries, and split the ball carrying duties with Kenneth Dixon, he averaged four yards per carry. From a production standpoint, he was doing well with the touches that he got.

West seems to have more talent than the results have shown. When you look at the attributes he has, it is exciting. When he breaks out a big run, we get a glimpse of what he is truly capable of. In these flashes of talent, West gives us something to hope about. Talent is not the issue.

There are legitimate excuses for the bottom line of stats. At the end of the day, he still hasn’t had a breakout season. West still needs to prove himself on the NFL stage and in Baltimore. He just has to prove he can be a number one running back.

Golden Chance:

In the first four games of the 2017 season, West should get plenty of action because of Kenneth Dixon’s suspension. The Ravens still have Danny Woodhead, but West is the main runner in between the tackles. West needs to get off to a fast start. The Ravens have talked the talk, apparently they want to get back to the running game.

It all lines up for West. His top competition will be shelved for the first quarter of the season. West is getting his dream chance with the Ravens and all the talk this offseason has been about the ground game. The time is now for West.

The Ravens have to see who their next great running back can be. West and Dixon will be trying to answer that question. In a perfect world, Dixon and West will both be the future in the Ravens backfield. One thing is for sure though, sooner or later West has to make the most of his potential. This is a show me year for West.
