Maxx Williams reaches his potential

Like Perriman, Maxx Williams career thus far can only be considered disappointing. He was considered a steal when the Ravens drafted him bottom half of the second round. Many thought he had low first round talent/early second round talent, me included.

As far as being a receiver is concerned Williams can absolutely replace Pitta’s production. Williams is the typical modern tight end in that he is just an oversized receiver. He has great hands and he is a threat as a chain mover, in the red zone and as a ball-carrier after the catch.

Why is a ‘best case scenario’ for Williams to produce over any of the other Ravens tight ends? Because the Ravens have the most invested in him. Benjamin Watson isn’t a long term option, Crockett Gillmore is a better blocker, Nick Boyle figures to play a role more similar to Kyle Juszczyk’s and Darren Waller remains a project. What’s more is he’s most similar to Dennis Pitta in terms of skill-set. He is the logical successor.

If Williams can stay healthy and take over the tight end position for the Ravens the transition from Pitta to him could be seamless, giving Flacco his security blanket at tight end.
