Bring Zach Back Orr, But Don’t Break Bank
It’s just another big story for the Ravens this offseason, as inside linebacker Zach Orr announced he wants to resume his playing career.
Orr was forced to retire at the beginning of this offseason, due to a spine condition, but has had a change of heart and is already set to visit the Detroit Lions, according to ESPN’s Dan Graziano.
However, Orr did state the ideal scenario would be a return to the Ravens, even though he is going to weigh out his options.
So should the Ravens bring back Orr? The easy answer is yes, as he was one of the top inside linebackers last year. Orr was very impressive against the run and the Ravens didn’t make any offseason moves to replace his production.

The team currently has in-house options in Kamalei Correa and Patrick Onwuasor, but both lack experience and will need more seasoning.
Orr would help fill a huge hole on the defense and it’s just a matter of find the right price for him to come back. Production-wise, Orr deserves a big contract and might look to see what he can get from teams will a lot of cap room. Injury-wise, Orr might have to temper his expectations, especially without being cleared to play yet.
The Ravens have roughly $4M left in cap space this year, so they could afford Orr on a modest deal. The team holds the upper-hand with familiarity the city that gave the undrafted free agent a chance to play in the NFL. However, money talks and a team with cap room could convince Orr to leave Baltimore.

It will be interesting to see how the next few weeks play out and the Ravens will certainly monitor Orr’s health situation. In the end, Orr will likely gather all the info on what teams will offer him and give the Ravens the chance to match it.

It’s a dream scenario for Orr to return to Baltimore and a strong possibility, but the team can’t afford to spend top-dollar if that’s what he’s after. This is a league with few elite inside linebackers, so teams will line up to see if Orr can be cleared to play.
The main thing now is his medical clearance needs to check out first and then the Ravens can see what type of money Orr is looking for.
