The Baltimore Ravens kickoff the beginning of training camp today as rookies report to the facility.

The news you’ve all been waiting for. Training camp is about to start…well kind of. The Baltimore Ravens don’t start full team practices until the 26th, but their rookies to camp today

The Ravens are one of five teams who’s rookies are scheduled to report today. We are now one step closer to the start of the football season. What a great feeling it is.

What This Means

Other than the OTA’s and mandatory minicamp, this will be one of the first times we get to see the Ravens rookies on the field. This includes the 2017 draft class along with any undrafted free agents. There is no question the Ravens have some exciting prospects in both groups, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

Players like Marlon Humphrey, Tyus Bowser and Tim Williams come in with big expectations as rookies. The Ravens will need help from them in their respective positions. Ozzie and the front office pride themselves in finding defense talent, so we will see how they look early on.

This will also be an important time for undrafted rookies who are trying to make the roster. The Ravens take these players seriously and are known for finding talent. Michael Pierce is the latest example of this. You never know who will impress and creep on to the 53-man roster to start the season.

An important rule to note: Because of rule changes this offseason, teams do not have to cut their rosters down to 75 players any more. They can now cut down to the 53-man roster after the last preseason game.

This rule could heavily influence how the Ravens look at their players and play them during the preseason.

The Bottom Line

While we won’t see most of the action until the entire team reports, it’s still an exciting time nevertheless. The beginning of the offseason starts out crazy and then dies down. We’ve been stuck in a very dry period where there’s been little to no news. And for the Ravens the only recent news we’ve heard is disappointing (Young and Pitta injuries/Waller suspension).
