Undrafted wide receiver Quincy Adeboyejo has impressed in the early stages of training camp. He is making his case for a spot on the 53-man roster.

Fans were up in arms when the Ravens chose not to select a wide receiver in the NFL draft.

But what many didn’t take into account is the team’s ability to bring in undrafted free agents. The Ravens have one of the best track records when it comes to this.

Even after passing up on all of the wide receiver talent, the Ravens were busy bringing in undrafted rookies. And as we’ve seen so far, it’s paid off. One of those rookies making some noise in training camp is Quincy Adeboyejo.

Adeboyejo played collegiately at Ole Miss and saw his best season in 2015 when he caught for 604 yards and seven touchdowns. But he was never really the primary target there because of some very talented wide receivers like Donte Moncrief and Laquon Treadwell. Adeboyejo went undrafted, but got plenty of calls from teams around the league.

And as we know, when players go undrafted, they have the chance to choose where they want to play. Because of Adeboyejo’s relationship with receivers coach Bobby Engram, it seemed to be a perfect choice with the Ravens.

Height and speed combination

When you look at the Baltimore Ravens roster, Adeboyejo stands at 6-3, the second tallest of the wide receivers only behind Chris Matthews. Not only that, but he’s got the speed to go along with it. Adeboyejo was one of the top performers in the 40-yard dash at the NFL combine. He clocked his official time at 4.42. You can bet that caught the eye of many teams, including the Ravens.

With some of the wide receivers held out of camp because of injuries, Adeboyejo has seen plenty of snaps. It seems like he has been taking full advantage of them so far.

Just this pass weekend he received high praise for his play at the open practice in Annapolis.

Not only that, but he was beating some of the Ravens top cornerbacks for big plays.

With his size and athleticism, Adeboyejo can go up and get the football. It’s similar to the traits of Anquan Boldin when he was with the Ravens. We saw that work wonders with Joe Flacco and the offense.

Flacco seems to be more comfortable when he has a receiver that knows how to play the sticks. It’s that extra security blanket for him as a quarterback. He’ll especially be looking for that this season with Dennis Pitta gone. Could Adeboyejo be that guy? The size and the speed are there, but it’s too early to tell right now.

However, Adeboyejo is making a strong case to be on the roster week 1. He’ll have the chance to showcase his talents on Thursday night when the Ravens open up their preseason against the Washington Redskins.
