The Baltimore Ravens first preseason game is in the books. The Ravens started out with a win. More importantly, these five players had winning performances:

The Baltimore Ravens beat the Washington Redskins in their first preseason game. It’s kind of nice for Ravens fans to get off to such a strong start but it’s just an exhibition game. For the players who got a chance to shine, this result is quite meaningful. The Ravens got a good look at their depth. They got a chance to see some players make a case for a starting role, while others made a case just to make the 53 man roster.

To steal a line from the late, great Dennis Green, they were who we thought they were. We had a good idea how the Ravens would go about their business. All offseason long we raved about the defense. Early into the preseason action, the defense looked absolutely fantastic. Ryan Mallett took the first team snaps at quarterback. It wasn’t pretty but it could have been a lot worse. The running game looked impressive and the offensive line (which was understaffed for the game) played surprisingly well. We have to wonder if the Ravens linemen played well or if Washington played vanilla defense.

That’s what happened in a nutshell. Now it is time to take a look at the players who helped themselves the most in this game.
