The Baltimore Ravens may face some difficult decisions, however keeping Taquan Mizzell should be an easy one.

The Baltimore Ravens have to start thinking about their 53 man roster. One thing the team must do, is maximize the amount of play-makers they have at their disposal. The offense didn’t have a lot of production from the offense this preseason but one player that stood out is Taquan Mizzell.

He is the leading receiver and rusher in the Ravens third preseason game. He averaged just 3.3 yards per carry, but with the constantly changing offensive line, that’s fairly impressive. It’s clear that Mizzell can make an impact in the passing game. He totaled 81 yards and a touchdown on nine receptions.

1. He’s simply earned it:

The first reason Mizzell should be on the team is that he’s earned his spot. He’s been more impressive than Buck Allen. The Ravens have enough evidence that this undrafted free agent was undervalued coming out of college. Mizzell has shown a spark. The Ravens would be foolish to put it out. The last thing Baltimore wants to see is him manifesting his potential somewhere else.

The preseason is a chance to earn a roster spot. We’re seeing it on the defensive side with Jaylen Hill. He is an undrafted player from Jacksonville State. Now Hill has a chance to be the starting nickel cornerback. Just as Hill has been the top story line for the defense, Mizzell is the standout for the offense.

If Mizzell doesn’t make the roster, what were the last three weeks for. Mizzell has been the top performer on the offense and it hasn’t been close. The top wide receiver from a statistical standpoint has been Michael Campanaro with six receptions for 52 yards. That isn’t exactly exciting. The top tight end from the preseason action has been Maxx Williams with three receptions for 51 yards. Mizzell has earned a spot because the Ravens’ locks for the roster have been shown up by an undrafted free agent from Virginia.
