As teams cut down their rosters from 90 to 53 players before the deadline on Saturday, trades are sure to happen league wide. Most of these trades will be purely for depth. We have already seen one such trade from the Ravens, and can probably expect more.
The Baltimore Ravens announced that they have traded for offensive lineman Tony Bergstrom. They acquired him from the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for a conditional 2018 7th round pick.

Bergstrom provides depth at both the center and guard positions. This was a move the Ravens absolutely needed to make.
Bergstrom is most likely the replacement for Jeremy Zuttah, who was the backup center to Ryan Jensen. Zuttah’s poor play against the Saints in the final preseason game spelled the end of his time in Baltimore for the second time this offseason. The Ravens clearly weren’t confident in Zuttah’s abilities anymore, and who can blame them?

The offensive line has been crippled by injuries during training camp and preseason. Starting left guard Alex Lewis and his probable backup Nico Siragusa both sustained season ending injuries. Projected starter John Urschel retired on the first day of training camp. Urschel provided depth at center and guard and was in a position battle with Ryan Jensen for the starting center job.
The Ravens desperately needed depth along the offensive line. Not just any depth though, they needed solid depth. I believe Bergstrom provides that for the Ravens. His versatility to play both guard and center is very helpful.
Bergstrom has only made four starts in his career, but the Ravens have preached about wanting to get bigger on the offensive line. Bergstrom adds that size at 6-5 313 lbs, so it’s safe to say the Ravens got a little bigger by adding him.

Most Ravens fans have probably never heard of this guy. Just know that he helps provide much-needed depth at the offensive line, which is always a good thing. The Ravens could very well make another trade or two like this one still.
