We learned of some concerning injury news regarding Baltimore Ravens running back Danny Woodhead. He’s expected to be out for at least one month.

We finally have a timetable on Danny Woodhead’s hamstring injury. And as expected, it’s not great.

Head coach John Harbaugh said today that Woodhead will be out at least a month with the injury.

Woodhead had looked great against the Bengals early on before going down with the injury. He had 33 receiving yards on just three targets, which got many excited. But shortly after, Woodhead was left grasping his leg after an incomplete pass in the first quarter. As many expected, it was a hamstring injury. Woodhead was helped off the field and carted into the training room, where he did not return.

The good news, Woodhead isn’t out for the season. The bad news, this is the same hamstring that forced him to miss half of the preseason. At the age of 32 and coming off of ACL surgery last season, it’s a disappointing result for both parties.

Based on Harbaugh’s words, the earliest Woodhead would be able to come back would be Week 6 against the Bears. Worst case scenario is that he’s placed on injured reserve with a designation to return in Week 10. The Ravens have two spots for players in this situation and could use their other one on cornerback Maurice Canady.

For the time being, we’ll probably see the Ravens add another back, but how concerned are they to find an immediate replacement?

Who replaces Woodhead?

Even with Woodhead out, I’m not so sure the Ravens are rushing to find a replacement. If they were, we would have seen a move earlier this week. There’s no time to panic right now, especially with the way they ran the Ball against the Bengals. Terrance West and Buck Allen provided a solid one-two punch on the ground. They racked up 151 total rushing yards and most importantly, sustained drives for the offense.

From the looks of it, any new addition at running back would come from the practice squad. The Ravens have two options in Alex Collins and Jeremy Langford, both who don’t fully replace Woodhead’s production, but can come in and be that third back on the depth chart.

As Harbaugh said today in his press conference, any decision made on those two would come towards the end of the week.
