It doesn’t matter what the rankings said before your fantasy football draft. The Baltimore Ravens have the top defense to own in fantasy football.

The Baltimore Ravens have a great fantasy football defense. They started the season with five turnovers (four interceptions and a fumble) and five sacks. They gave up zero points and the scored a lot of fantasy points. While it is unreasonable to expect this kind of performance every week, the Ravens defense will have consistently good outings.

This is a defense that can create turnovers and sack the quarterback. They won’t give up a lot of points. Anytime turnovers are likely, defensive touchdowns are a possibility. The Ravens have a chance to turn defense into offense on a regular basis.

This week the Ravens defense is a very attractive start in fantasy football. The Ravens are going against a rookie quarterback in DeShone Kizer. The Browns have some big play weapons. Corey Coleman and David Njoku have plenty of speed. The Bengals had even better weapons. In the end the Bengals walked away completely embarrassed.

When Baltimore takes on the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Oakland Raiders, the defense will be tested. They should however be able to dominate the Browns and the Jacksonville Jaguars. The defense is still a smart play against better teams.

They probably won’t pitch a shutout against the Steelers, but they could have some huge plays. The Ravens know the Steelers very well and they have a bunch of new weapons for Dean Pees to play with. Besides, it’s not really a Ravens-Steelers game until Ben Roethlisberger gets sacked.

The Bottom Line:

The defense is going to have a lot of low scoring games throughout the season. The defense will also be able to put up a few big plays each week. Starting the Ravens defense is one of the safest things you can do. It’s a safe pick. They will seldom let you down and each week they have a chance to put big numbers on the scoreboard.

The Ravens defense is special this season. All offseason long people had praised the Ravens for rebuilding the defense. All preseason long people were awed by the defense. In the regular season opener the Ravens proved the hype was legitimate.

The Ravens have some sacks for you. If you drafted the Ravens defense, pat yourself on the back. You made a smart decision.
