With Breshad Perriman’s lackluster performance this season, it’s pretty clear he’s a bust. So, should the Baltimore Ravens bench him?

The Ravens are going through yet another tough season. Most of the struggles have come from an incompetent offense. The offense has gone through many injuries but the main reason for the poor offensive play has come from the lack of playmakers and inconsistencies.

Wide receiver Breshad Perriman is one player that has shown consistency. However, the only consistent thing he has done is drop balls, run poor routes, and fail to meet expectations.

Breshad Perriman was drafted by the Ravens in the 2015 draft with the 26th pick. It was a bit of a reach at the time, but a very big need for the team at the receiver spot. Perriman seemingly has all the physical tools necessary to be a good player in the NFL. At 6-2, 215 pounds, he can run like a deer and jump as high as anyone. There’s just been one thing Perriman can’t do as a receiver and that’s catch the football.

The hands have been a problem

The biggest knock on Perriman coming into the draft was his brick hands. It turned out to be more than true, as it seems like he can’t catch a cold in the winter.

Let’s get one thing straight: Breshad Perriman is a true professional on and off the field. All in all he seems like a really good guy and I am rooting for him all the way; However, as an NFL player for a playoff-caliber team (I use that term loosely), you can only get so many chances. Perriman has been healthy for almost two years now and has struggled in pretty much every game he’s played in.

The Ravens are very limited at receiver, I understand that, but you can’t keep throwing Perriman out there. Chris Moore has played 162 fewer snaps on offense than Perriman and has just one less catch. Moore has even scored, something Perriman hasn’t done this season.

Breshad hasn’t lived up to what his father, Brett, was in the NFL. Brett was a reliable receiver with good hands. He ran precise routes and was trustworthy to the quarterback. Breshad has been the exact opposite of that.

If the Ravens are going to continue to fight for the playoffs, they can’t keep trusting Perriman just based on potential. Every week it seems like Ravens’ players and coaches rave about his play in practice. Where has that translated to on the field? We haven’t seen that and we are all losing hope that we ever will.

The Bottom Line:

Perriman is a good guy and I am sure he works hard. Maybe it is just time for a change of scenery for him but I think the Ravens have to move in a new direction. They cannot keep trusting a guy that has shown them nothing. Flacco needs all the help he can get and as much as he is struggling just as much throwing the ball and right now, Perriman isn’t a guy that is helping this offense, he is hurting it.
