2. Scoring Defense:
The Baltimore Ravens are only giving up an average of 19 points per game. The fact that they have five losses is really an indictment on their ability to score. The sad truth is that if the opponent scores 21 points, it may be enough to beat the Ravens on any given Sunday. The Ravens defense has two shutouts to their name, that’s awesome. Take out the 44-7 loss to the Jaguars and no team has put up more than 27 points on the purple and black. The Ravens should be looking at more than four wins. That’s simply on the offense.
The Ravens haven’t scored a ton of touchdowns. Their 20 times in the end zone is a relatively low number but they have only allowed 18 touchdowns. Sure, the defense has had a couple of bad games but how do you complain about this defense? Even in their worst state, the defense isn’t worse than the offense. I know I said I was going to be positive, but calling out this offense is hard to resist. Thankfully, its the bye week so there will be no T.V. remote throwing today.
The Ravens defense is doing enough to win games. Even when they gave nearly 150 yards on the ground to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Ravens only allowed 26 points. Even in one of their most frustrating performances the Ravens gave the offense tons of chances to get back into the game. The defense has some accountability for the struggles of this team, but pass defense and scoring defense are two areas they aren’t to blame for.
