The Baltimore Ravens have officially activated running back Danny Woodhead off Injured Reserve. It’s a long-awaited return for the veteran running back.
Grit has returned back to Baltimore. After spending the last 10 weeks on Injured Reserve with a hamstring injury, the Baltimore Ravens are getting back some much-needed help.
The team announced that they’ve activated running back Danny Woodhead to the 53-man roster. To make room for the move, tight end Gavin Escobar has been waived.
Woodhead missed most of the preseason with hamstring problems and aggravated the same injury on the opening drive against the Bengals Week 1. It was a tough break, especially since Woodhead had three catches for 33 yards on the drive. An impressive debut was cut much too short and it’s time for a second go-around.
The second-worst passing attack has struggled all season but they get back a key component. Woodhead has established himself as a premier pass-catching running back in his nine-year career. It’s exactly why Ozzie Newsome made the signing over the offseason. Woodhead is a trusted pass-catcher who can make things happen when he get’s the football. Ironically, he’s the player you actually want to throw the checkdown pass to. Go figure.
As I’ve talked about, Woodhead is a security blanket for Joe Flacco. He’s Mr. Reliable in the passing game and can pick up the crucial yards when needed. His return doesn’t fix the air attack but it sure is a major help. I think we’ll see Woodhead make an immediate impact on the offense tomorrow afternoon. Marty Mornhinweg has to get him involved as much as possible.

Along with cornerback Maurice Canady, Woodhead is the second and final player the Ravens can activate off Injured Reserve. Let’s hope Woodhead can stay healthy as the purple and black enter the most crucial part of their schedule, ahead of a late-season playoff push.
