A battle with the Detroit Lions is a critically important game for the Baltimore Ravens:

The Baltimore Ravens and Detroit Lions should give football fans an interesting show, because these teams are complete opposites. The Lions have a highly electric offense. The fate of their team is put on Matthew Stafford’s right arm on a weekly basis. The Baltimore Ravens are a defensive oriented team that has forced three shutouts this season. I mentioned in my latest three big things post, that in this game something has to give. Will the Lions post the gaudy numbers they are accustomed to? Will the Ravens defense have the final say? This is what we’re going to find out on Sunday.

The Ravens come into the action on a two game winning streak. Baltimore has won three of their last four games. There may be a lot not going right, but the team is starting to come away with the much needed victories that could propel them into the postseason. A three game winning streak would give the Ravens some confidence. This is a team that lost four out of five earlier in the year, so it’s good to see the wheels are back on the tracks. The Lions are coming off a tough loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Thanksgiving. Stafford and the Lions may be known for their comebacks but this one got away from them. Before the loss to the Vikings, the Lions won three straight.

The Ravens need to get hot down the stretch:

The Ravens need to start to find the magic if they are going to make the playoffs (and do anything once they get there). Baltimore’s offense has been stagnant and the games have often been brutal to watch. While the Ravens are on a winning trend, it’s hard to call them a team that’s hot, or rolling on all cylinders. The offense needs to step up. It is commonly said that necessity is the father of invention and the Ravens may need a better offensive showing to beat the Lions. The defense should be able to slow Stafford and company down, but they can’t expect too much from the defense. If Joe Flacco and the offense put the defense in bad situations, bad things are going to happen. The Ravens need at least 20 points to win this game.
