Jimmy Smith is likely out for the rest of the season:

In a first half where everything was going the Ravens way, one bad thing happened. When Jimmy Smith was down on the field long after the play, it didn’t take long to figure out what happened. All indications are that this is an Achilles tear. It didn’t take long for Peter Schrager to tell the audience of the game on Fox, what had happened to Smith.

Injuries are nothing new for the Ravens best cornerbacks. Smith has an on and off again relationship with injuries that would have rivaled Ross and Rachel. The shame here is that Smith was having the best season of his career. Other than struggling against DeAndre Hopkins, he was having a flawless year. Smith shut down elite receivers like Antonio Brown, Jarvis Landry and A.J. Green.

The Ravens aren’t toast in the secondary. They were prepared for this, but it is a huge blow to the defense. Brandon Carr and Marlon Humphrey will be the top two corners moving forward. Humphrey has been having a stellar rookie season but now the pressure is on and his role will increase in a big way.

Next: 3 reasons to be proud of the Ravens

Hopefully the Ravens get some good news in regards to Smith, but it doesn’t look like that will be the case. Smith has been dealing with an Achilles injury for much of the season and this should probably be the end of his season. We’ll have to wait for more information, however it looks bad for the Ravens best cornerback.
