Mike Wallace has been a bright spot among struggling WR group

The Baltimore Ravens’ passing offense has been abysmal this year and would be worse if it weren’t for Mike Wallace.

The Baltimore Ravens’ offense has been the story all year long and not for good reasons. They have been one of the worst offenses in the league, even though they are coming on as of late. Joe Flacco has played poorly as a whole and the receiving corps has been lackluster. However, there is one receiver that has played fairly well all year and that’s been veteran, Mike Wallace.

Mike Wallace was considered a candidate to be cut from the roster last offseason. He had over 1,000 yards a year ago but his cap hit was very high. The Ravens chose not to cut him and it’s paid off well for the team this season. Wallace started off slow but has been the most consistent receiver for the Ravens all year.

On the other hand, Breshad Perriman continues to be one of the biggest busts in franchise history. Jeremy Maclin has been hampered by injuries all year and Chris Moore still isn’t where he should be. But, Wallace has picked up the slack. He’s been Flacco’s favorite target out of that wide receiver group.

Wallace was brought in last season to be a Torrey Smith-like deep threat for Flacco’s big arm. However, I would argue he has been used a lot more in the intermediate game for Joe. He’s done a great job running routes and having a sure pair of hands when needed.

Wallace probably won’t have another 1,000-yard season but he has been underappreciated this season. By no means has he been a superstar and or even the best player on the field in any of the games, but Wallace is one of the only reliable offensive weapons beside Alex Collins. And for a team that’s struggled on the offensive side of the ball, that’s all they can ask for.

I personally hope that Mike Wallace sticks around for a few more years. For a team that is struggling to find offensive playmakers, Wallace is quality. He has been a fantastic pickup for a team that’s needed him.
