The Baltimore Ravens haven’t been run like a well oiled machine in the past several years. The good thing about screwing up, is that it gives you a “What not to do” manual.

The Baltimore Ravens are in a bit of trouble this offseason. They have a fan base that is part mad, and part disappointed or uninterested. They are tight against the salary cap. Ozzie Newsome has to restore a reputation that is severely damaged unless you are looking in the rear view mirror. Steve Bisciotti has a lot to answer for as the owner of the Ravens. Could it be that he’s too comfortable with Harbaugh and Newsome? How will he insure that sticking with his current brain trust won’t lead to the same result?

It’s the offseason in Baltimore and that no longer means that fans get to hope for the next season. Fans get a merciful break and they’ll wait through an offseason filled with doubt and despair. Even if the Ravens stopped the Cincinnati Bengals on 4th & 12 and made the postseason, the dark cloud around this franchise would still be here. The Ravens set a high standard for themselves as Super Bowl contenders. It’s a standard they haven’t lived up to in years but the mission shouldn’t change, especially when you have the same pilots. Things have to change, but hey we’ve been saying that for a couple of years in a row.

Let’s get into it:

We know what the Ravens need to do. They need to invest in their offense. They need to add players to their team that make NFL Sunday fun. Baltimore needs to add talent at positions of need. The best player available has to turn into the `best player at a position of need. We know what needs to happen, because it is as obvious as it could be. Now we really need to talk about what the Ravens cannot afford to do.
