The Ravens owner gave his “State of the Ravens” press conference today. You can watch the press conference on the Baltimore Ravens official website. Here are three big takeaways from his responses:

1. Replacing Joe Flacco isn’t Steve Bisciotti’s big concern:

Bisciotti didn’t write off the end of the Flacco era as a train of thought, rather he put it on the back burner. There was nothing that he said that would indicate that the Ravens were in a hurry to get a quarterback of the future. He then basically called Flacco a franchise quarterback by explaining to us that the franchise quarterbacks in the NFL are lasting longer than ever. I did think it was interesting, he mentioned Ben Roethlisberger by his first name but referenced Tom Brady as “Our friend up in New England.” Terrell Suggs always calls him number 12, and never by his name so the owner basically just applied the same rule of thumb on that.

It would make a lot of sense for the Ravens to be interested in a franchise quarterback moving forward. When you look at this draft class and the quarterback crop it has, the Ravens may not get a better chance than this year, especially if they plan on being a playoff team moving forward. However Steve Bisciotti said it crystal clear when he said “We’ve got bigger fish to fry”

Bisciotti still has faith in Flacco:

One thing that Bisciotti made a point of was Flacco’s back injury. He talked about how his injury and the offensive line woes set up a rough start to the season then he added this opinion:

"“What we saw in him when our offensive line solidified and he got more comfortable in the pocket, and obviously if we could recreate the last half of the season than I think we might still be playing. But we’re a long way off from having to worry about Joe.”"

The Ravens focus is going to be putting the pieces around Flacco to be successful. Whether that is the right way to go about it is the very reason we have Twitter and sports talk radio. One thing is for sure, if the Ravens want to move on from Flacco, the owner is downplaying it in a big way. Joe Flacco’s contract makes the Ravens kind of have to make it work one way or another, so that could be the part he’s not telling us.
