Ozzie Newsome: His top 10 accomplishments with Ravens
5. Trading for Steve McNair
The best record the Ravens ever had in the regular season was 13-3 and it came the year that Steve Smith entered the picture. McNair was once the Ravens top rival and he became the new hope for the Ravens offense. The 13-3 record came mostly from the defense but McNair showed Baltimore what a real quarterback looks like. Sadly, the Ravens exited the playoffs after one game in that magical 2006 season. After that father time caught up with McNair with a vengeance. Injury caused 2007 to be a shuffling between Kyle Boller and Troy Smith.

The Ravens may have only gotten one great year from McNair but it was a really good season. McNair threw for 3,050 yards and had 16 touchdowns and 12 picks. He provided competence at the position even though he wasn’t the superstar he once was. As a long time Ravens fan, it was incredibly weird going from rooting against McNair to rooting for him. That being said, you couldn’t ask for a better leader and the Ravens Flock should always be grateful for his time in Baltimore.
The 2006 Ravens were too good to waste with inept play from the quarterback position. The Ravens general manager made the absolute right decision to bring in the long time Titans quarterback.
