4. Drafting four hall of fame worthy players

Newsome has made some incredible picks. He drafted Jonathan Ogden, Ray Lewis, Ed Reed and Terrell Suggs. Two of those players have been voted into the Hall of Fame. The other two players will reach that point some day. There is just no way getting around it, these players are special. For as much credit as Bill Polian gets for Peyton Manning being available with the first pick in the 1998 draft, you would think Newsome would get a 24/7 parade. People were surprised when Newsome took Ogden. They said Ray Lewis was too small and there were people not on the Ed Reed train. Newsome had tough calls to make and he made them exactly right.

Newsome has also drafted players who may have an argument to get into Canton at some point. Marshall Yanda is possibly the best offensive lineman of the past decade. Jamal Lewis had a 2,000 yard season and was one of the running greatest backs in his prime. Haloti Ngata was a once in a lifetime talent, whose knee problems set his numbers back a bit. Peter Boulware didn’t have the longevity that gets you enshrined however he was special.

When it comes to drafting the truly special players, Newsome has a knack for it. Newsome knows an all-time great when he sees one. He’s drafted the best left tackle of all-time, the greatest middle linebacker to play the game and the best ball-hawk ever.
