3. Matt Skura

If you told me this time last year that Matt Skura would replace Ryan Jensen as the starting center, it would have hit totally different than it does after the 2017 season. Who knew Jensen was going to do so well that he would become the highest paid center in football? Who knew that the idea of Skura playing center would actually be an inviting idea? It’s funny how 16 games can change everything, because that’s exactly what happened.

Skura had to scratch his way onto the 53 man roster last fall, and he ended up playing a lot of football for the Ravens. While Skura jumped into the action at right guard, he showed that he was a competent player. Skura is a good run blocker and a surprisingly effective pass protector. If the Ravens don’t add a center, they at least know that Skura can play. This is the silver lining to losing Marshall Yanda for the 2017 season, we got to see what Skura was made of.

Skura is the Ravens starting center unless something changes. If the ravens don’t draft a guy like Billy Price or Frank Ragnow, they are moving forward with the center position being Skura’s to lose. Skura went from a potential preseason cut to a presumptive starter. It just goes to show you that you can’t forget about him.
