Ozzie Newsome has continued to bolster the Baltimore Ravens’ receiver core this offseason. This time by signing Willie Snead on a two-year offer sheet.

We pretty much assumed the Baltimore Ravens were going to add another wide receiver ahead of the NFL draft, it was just a matter of when.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported this morning that Saints’ restricted free agent Willie Snead has signed a two-year offer sheet with the Ravens worth up to $10.4 million.

The deal includes $3.4 million in incentives along with a $2 million signing bonus.

The signing isn’t official just yet. The Saints will have five days to match the offer but it’s highly unlikely that they do. Snead was an obsolete part of the team’s passing attack after returning from a four-game suspension earlier in the regular season. He finished the year with just eight receptions for 92 yards.

Much like the Ravens, the Saints have had a busy offseason of their own at wide receiver. They most recently signed Brandon Coleman and Cameron Meredith. With Michael Thomas and Ted Ginn still leading the way on the depth chart, limited cap space prevents Mickey Loomis and the Saints’ front office from matching a competitive offer. I’d be shocked if they did.

The interest in Dez Bryant was legitimate but it doesn’t seem like feeling was mutual from both parties. Snead provides a younger and cheaper option. It’s another step in rebuilding the wide receiver corps but the Ravens are betting that Snead can replicate his production from the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

If so, this could prove to be a fantastic addition this offseason.

Snead will likely join Michael Crabtree and John Brown as the third wide receiver signed by the Ravens this offseason. It’s been a complete and much-needed overhaul to revamp one of the league’s worst pass offenses.

This gives the Ravens more stability at the position as they will look to target a young pass catcher in draft next week.
