No. 52: Dallas Goedert TE, South Dakota State

Selecting an offensive lineman in the first round undoubtedly means the Ravens must address their next top need: pass-catcher. But instead of targeting a wide receiver in the second round, Newsome adds a big-bodied tight end in Dallas Goedert.

The South Dakota State product totaled 2,404 yards and 11 touchdowns in his final two seasons with the Jackrabbits and is an FCS product the Ravens should covet. Drawing Travis Kelce and Rob Gronkowski-like comparisons, Goedert gives Baltimore a much-needed pass-catching target at tight end. Since Dennis Pitta‘s unfortunate retirement, the Ravens have played musical chairs at the tight end position, most recently relying on a 37-year old Ben Watson last season. It’s time for an influx of young and productive talent at the position, which Goedert provides.

Maxx Williams and Nick Boyle aren’t the clear-cut answers at tight end. Darren Waller showed flashes but can’t stay on the field long enough to prove it. Joe Flacco has played some of his best football with a security blanket across the middle and Goedert provides that and more with his 6-5, 265-pound frame.
