Mark Andrews could be the next Todd Heap for the Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens just found the next Todd Heap. That’s who Mark Andrews is:
The Baltimore Ravens didn’t need to attack the wide receiver position, because the Ravens now have two great pass catching tight ends. Mark Andrews is a 6’5″ target with a thick frame who was insanely productive for Baker Mayfield. There’s not much more Ravens fans could ask for in this draft.
The Ravens came into this draft without a surplus of play-makers. In addition to Michael Crabtree who can go up and get the football, the Ravens now have Mark Andrews and Hayden Hurst. The Ravens are going to use a lot of two tight end sets and Andrews is going to be a pass catcher down the field. Hurst is a versatile player who can do a bit of everything. Andrews is an offensive weapon that the Ravens will use as a dagger in clutch situations. That’s what Baker Mayfield did with the Sooners, when in doubt he went to Andrews.

Heap was a 6’5″ 252 target who was a great athlete with perfect body control when going for the football. In other words, Heap and Andrews have almost the same exact measurables. Andrews is a match-up problem for any defense and that’s why he was so productive in college. Andrews had 62 receptions for 958 yards and eight touchdowns in 2017. He has scored at least 7 touchdowns in all three of his seasons.
Heap was one of the most popular players the Ravens have ever had. Todd Heap jerseys are about as prominent as Ray Lewis jerseys in Maryland. At the end of the road, I think we’ll be saying the same thing about Andrews. The Ravens are winning the draft.
The Bottom Line:
Andrews can get some separation down the field. Andrews is a pretty sharp route runner for a third round tight end. He’s going to be where he needs to be to make big plays. He’ll be a player Joe Flacco will lean on and he’ll be Lamar Jackson’s favorite target down the road.
