Baltimore Ravens: 5 takeaways from the 2018 NFL Draft

2. Hayden Hurst and Mark Andrews could prove to be one of the more dominant tight end duos in football
Ozzie Newsome adding two pass catching tight ends that mirror one another at 6’5 250lbs is no question the second biggest story of the weekend for the Ravens. The tight end position was certainly one of the bigger needs going into the weekend. That said, I don’t think many people expected Ozzie to double down at the position as early as he did. If you looked at the rankings by position and you glanced at the top five tight ends, both Hayden Hurst and Mark Andrews were on just about every ranking list. And Ozzie walked away with both players this weekend.

Having both Hurst and Andrews could prove to be one of the better double tight end sets in the league. If both end up starting by week one its going to be quite the obstacle for teams and their defensive coordinators to figure out. Flacco having a tight end that plays well in the slot in Andrews and another that can play the middle of the field and block consistently in Hurst, is surely going to be a security blanket for him this coming season.
Adding these two tight ends with the receivers added over the offseason and the ones drafted in round four and five, the Ravens offense could end up being a strength rather than their weakness. The tight end position has also been one of the weaknesses since now retired Dennis Pitta couldn’t stay healthy. We saw the Eagles run a double tight end set with Trey Burton and Zach Ertz. Hopefully coach Harbaugh mirrors what their offense did this season, so the offense launches off much earlier than it did this past season.
