The Baltimore Ravens will have to trim down their current roster to 53 players before the regular season. Here are bubble players to watch.

3. Robert Griffin III

Griffin was a surprise signing early last month. After letting Ryan Mallett walk in free agency, the Ravens were keen on finding a viable No. 2 behind Joe Flacco for the 2018 season. That was weeks before the draft, however. Things are a bit different now one month later. From one Heisman quarterback to another, Lamar Jackson’s addition makes Griffin expendable.

Griffin, a very similar style of quarterback, would be a helpful mentor to Jackson during his rookie season. With that being said, the Ravens aren’t a team accustomed to holding three quarterbacks throughout the regular season. It hasn’t been a problem they’ve have had to worry about because of Flacco’s consistency under center. But Jackson’s addition brings a whole different dynamic to the position.

Releasing Griffin would leave the Ravens with just $100,000 in dead cap, a number I’d assume they’re more than comfortable dealing with. It’s very likely Jackson earns the backup role behind Flacco in training camp, making Griffin’s roster spot a numbers game. Is it worth sacrificing a spot elsewhere to keep a third quarterback?

That’s something the Ravens will have to decide.
