Cornerback (6)

Jimmy Smith

Brandon Carr

Marlon Humphrey

Tavon Young

Maurice Canady

Anthony Averett

Cornerback is yet another deep position for the Ravens this season. As Jimmy Smith recovers from a torn Achilles, Brandon Carr and Marlon Humphrey are the presumed starters on the outside heading into Week 1. All signs have pointed to Tavon Young resecuring the starting slot corner spot returning from an ACL injury, leaving Maurice Canady and rookie Anthony Averett as backups. Given Canady’s playing time in the secondary last season, I still think he earns a roster spot despite being one of the key faults in Tyler Boyd‘s game-winning touchdown catch last season.

Safety (5)

Eric Weddle

Tony Jefferson

Anthony Levine

Deshon Elliott

Chuck Clark

Before pairing up last season, Eric Weddle and Tony Jefferson were two of Pro Football Focus’s highest-rated safeties during the 2016 season. The two will look to rekindle that production for defense a that led the NFL in turnovers last season. Anthony Levine, Deshon Elliott, and Chuck Clark all have potential to be utilized in a hybrid safety-cover role. That will be a something to keep an eye on with all of the struggles the defense had covering tight ends over the middle of the field last season.
