After a promising rookie season, Marlon Humphrey earned his keep as a staple in the Ravens secondary for years to come. Could 2018 already be his break-out season?

2017 saw plenty of young corners step in as rookies and take the NFL by storm. Cornerback is widely considered one of the hardest positions to play at the professional level, yet that didn’t stop guys like Marshon Lattimore and Tre’Davious White from coming in and becoming household names as rookies. Lost in the buzz around those two, as well as others, Marlon Humphrey was quietly a lock-down presence in the Ravens secondary.

Humphrey, a former member of the Alabama Crimson Tide, had an extremely successful rookie season. The 22-year old started five games as a rookie, recording 34 tackles and two interceptions as well as 11 pass deflections. Not bad for a guy who many (including yours truly) pegged as a reach at 16th overall.

No, Humphrey showed off tremendous upside and the ability to be a lock-down corner. His youth and his skill-set have me wondering to myself: Just how good can Humphrey be in year-two?

Sure, Humphrey could be Baltimore’s ace at corner down the road, but why not sooner? Just exactly what is holding back Humphrey from top-corner status? And not just in Baltimore, but across the league?
