While Urlacher was the Defensive Player of the Year in 2005, Lewis won that award in 2000 and 2003. Lewis went to 13 Pro Bowls, while Urlacher got eight. Eight is still an incredible number, but Lewis has the advantage there. The biggest difference here is rings. Lewis won two Super Bowls as the leader of the purple and black. Lewis was the Super Bowl XXXV MVP and he led what is arguably the greatest defense of all-time. Urlacher went to a Super Bowl, but the Bears lost.

The Ravens have a statue of Lewis outside of M&T Bank Stadium. He will go down as the greatest player in franchise history no matter what happens in the future. Lewis spent 17 seasons as the face of the franchise. His pending retirement pushed the Ravens past Peyton Manning’s Broncos, Tom Brady’s Patriots and the lights going out in the Super Bowl. Both players will be remembered as two of the greatest linebackers the game has ever seen; however Lewis will be remembered as the greatest player in the history of a franchise.

Urlacher is just one of the many great Chicago Bears. His name goes right with players like Walter Payton, Dick Butkis, Mike Singletary and so many others in the history of the Bears. The Bears have more Hall of Fame players than you can quickly list. Urlacher is amazing but he won’t go down as the best player his team ever had. Lewis has more accolades and a more important role in the history of his team.
