In his first NFL action since 2016, RGIII was solid for the Baltimore Ravens in the 2018 Hall of Fame Game.

Wisley, the Baltimore Ravens didn’t let Joe Flacco step on the field in pads for the NFL Hall of Fame Game, which meant RGIII got the starting job on Thursday night against the Chicago Bears. As much excitement surrounded Lamar Jackson’s debut, many were intrigued to watch Griffin’s comeback campaign. The former NFL Rookie of the Year sat out of football for the entire 2017 season before signing a one-year deal with the Ravens this offseason.

Here’s a look at my grade on Griffin’s performance for the night.

B+. Griffin was solid. He finished the night 7-for-11 with 58 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He led the Ravens to 10 points in five drives, including a five-yard touchdown pass to Maxx Williams. His one interception was deflected off the hands of Breshad Perriman and could have very easily been avoided, so there’s no faulting Griffin on that part.
Following an injury-riddled career, Griffin looked comfortable and confident in the pocket. He showed no signs of hesitation with his legs and didn’t take any big shots playing in front of the second and third-string offensive line. It’s clear Griffin has matured since entering the league in 2012 and his mentorship to Lamar Jackson is crucial throughout the offseason.

If Griffin continues a solid preseason in all five games, the Ravens will have a tough decision to make when roster cuts roll around. Flacco and Jackson are locks to make the 53-man roster but can the Ravens justify taking a third quarterback, something they’ve seldom done in the past?

. QB. Baltimore Ravens. ROBERT GRIFFIN III

It may just be preseason football but Griffin did what was asked of him tonight and it’s not worth over analyzing from such a small sample size so far.

Next. 5 takeaways from the Hall of Fame Game. dark

Flacco will get limited reps in the next four games, giving Griffin extended looks under center. He’s entering the most important audition of his career – for the Ravens and for the rest of the 31 teams that may be interested.
