How did Lamar Jackson look in his second preseason game? What a difference a week makes:

While Lamar Jackson still has plenty of things he needs to work on, he looked much better in his second preseason game. Jackson seemed more comfortable on the field and he showed a lot of things that were very positive. He went 7-18 for 119 yards passing and scored a rushing touchdown, that was something to behold.

Jackson got into the game on the second drive of the evening. Joe Flacco took the Ravens down the field for a touchdown and then the Ravens let Jackson take control of the offense. Jackson played into the third quarter. Baltimore gave Jackson a chance to wow the home crowd. It wasn’t a perfect performance, but after last week, fans should be over the moon about this performance.

Lamar Jackson got off to a hot start. He made some nice throws and most importantly made an effort to make plays down the field. He didn’t automatically take off with his jet-pack like speed. Jackson struggled with accuracy but he showed a much more impressive command of the offense. The completion percentage is still lower than you want to see but he did things as a passer he didn’t even attempt in the Hall of Fame Game. Jackson took shots, most of which he missed on, but he went for it. He started out with a good throw to Chris Moore. It was tight coverage and Jackson put the ball in a place that allowed Moore to make a play. Jackson played fearlessly but not recklessly.
Jackson still made his most impressive plays with his athletic ability. His nine yard touchdown run was something that you’d see in a video game, it was too easy. Jackson avoided a couple of bad plays because the defense couldn’t catch him. Jackson’s decision making was better in this game. He stayed in the pocket a little longer, he tried to honestly go through his progressions. He did the work that doesn’t come naturally to him and in doing so Jackson showed a lot of growth. Small improvements are a big deal for Jackson. That’s what he showed. He was solid against the Rams, and he flashed serious potential as a passer. The biggest problem right now is accuracy and throwing with anticipation. He made some pretty throws. From a technique stand point, Jackson looked much sharper.

. QB. Ravens. LAMAR JACKSON. B

Jackson was the biggest story from the Ravens lopsided win over the Rams. The fact that Jackson led a few scoring drives, should have Ravens fans fairly excited. Jackson got off to an A+ start but he didn’t maintain it throughout his performance. He missed some shots, and he had some throws he would want back.

Happiness is based on expectations. The expectations were lowered after the Hall of Fame Game. With that in mind it’s hard to have a problem with what Jackson put on the field. He showed growth and an understanding of where he is as a quarterback. The main takeaway here is that in a performance with some real problems, Jackson made progress.
