News broke late Friday morning that rookie tight end Hayden Hurst will miss the first quarter of the 2018 season with a stress fracture in his foot.

It just wouldn’t be a Ravens off-season if a key player wasn’t injured.

As you all know, news broke late Friday morning that rookie tight end Hayden Hurst will miss the first quarter of the 2018 season with a stress fracture in his foot that will require him to have minor surgery. Hurst will be the first domino to fall in the injury column for the Ravens. It’s been the same song and dance with this team for the past three seasons. Its something that they can’t seem to shake, but this one stings worse than others.

The Ravens are coming off a 2017 season where their offense was lackluster to say the least. And they finally got some weapons for veteran Joe Flacco to throw to. Now he’s without the team’s 2018 first round pick.

The rookie known among Ravens fans as “Thor” was having himself quite the training camp. Catching everything in camp and catching five passes and a touchdown in the first three preseason games. He has shown flashes of being the next great Ravens tight end. Unfortunately at 25-years old, starting off your career with a stress fracture and missing the first four weeks of the season isn’t the best way start to your NFL career.

We can only hope that Hurst can come back one hundred percent after week four, seeings how that is when the schedule starts to get rough. This is when the Baltimore offense is going to need their 6’5″ 245-lbs. tight end to give Defensive Coordinators a run for their money.

The rookie tight end will be under his fair share of pressure when he gets back from injury. On draft day, the fan-base was quite taken aback by Ozzie Newsome’s final first round selection as General Manager being the 25-year-old tight end; especially with Alabama’s Calvin Ridley and Maryland’s own D.J. Moore both still being available. The fan-base will certainly remember the pick if Moore and Ridley both go on to be stars and Hayden Hurst doesn’t.
