So far this preseason the Raven’s pass rush has been a disturbance to every offensive line they have faced. A big reason for that is second year linebacker Tim Williams. Looking to be one of the breakout stars of a stacked Ravens’s defense, let’s take a deeper look at Williams’ breakout preseason.

Coming out of the University of Alabama, Tim Williams was known for having one of the highest motors in college football. He has the speed to beat any lineman on the outside, the power to win the inside battle, and can simply bully his way straight through any blocker. Typically, only a third down rusher in college, Williams struggled in his first NFL season, finding it difficult to consistently put pressure on the opposing quarterback. Injuries also hindered Williams’ performance in 2017 as he only appeared in eight games.

So far this preseason however, Williams has seemed to have found his groove and has made a play or two in every game this Summer. Williams had also struggled mightily against the run when he was on the field last year. But he has looked much better at finding the ball carrier and his pursuit to the ball looks much improved. Playing at a deep position, Williams looks as though he has solidified his position in a very talented rotation at pass rusher. Let’s see what grade Williams has earned himself this preseason

The Raven’s defense is poised to have another top ten unit this winter. With the ageless wonder Terrell Suggs leading the pack alongside, Matt judon, Tyus Bowser, and Za’Darius Smith, Tim Williams will be able to get his chances and make a huge impact on arguably one of the top five pass rushing units in the NFL.
